LOREN LUDWIG plays acoustic and electric viols in a range of styles. He has performed in Asia and South America and across Europe and the US and appeared with the Smithsonian Chamber Players, The New York and Oberlin Consorts of Viols, the Oberlin Baroque Ensemble, Catacoustic, and many other ensembles. Loren is the recipient of both Fulbright and Mellon fellowships to study and do research in Holland and England, respectively. He did his undergraduate work at Oberlin conservatory with Catharina Meints and is currently writing a dissertation at the University of Virginia entitled “‘Equal to All Alike’: A Cultural History of the Viol Consort in England, c.1550-1675.” His activities with quaver represent a continuation of efforts to reconcile the aesthetics of the 17th-century music with a 21st-century musical sensibility. Some of the results of these efforts can be heard at www.myspace.com/lorenludwig.
